How To Get Started

By now you’ve seen that the Estate Planning Law Center is something special and because you love your family, you know your family deserves the kind of protection and guidance we provide. It’s important that you know how we work because we do things a bit differently here that at other firms. That’s why our client’s love us so much.

Schedule Your Personal Family Estate Plan Consultation

Contact our office (818) 292-8160 or send us an E-Mail to schedule your Personal Family Estate Plan Consultation. We will schedule the most convenient appointment time available for you with Richard. We will see clients on Saturday and we even have evening appointments available to make planning as convenient for you as possible. If circumstances require a home visit, that can be arranged as well.

When you schedule your Personal Family Estate Plan Consultation, we request that you give several days notice if you need to reschedule. We provide our very best service to those families who are looking for a long-term relationship with their trusted lawyer advisor. We expend most of our energy providing an exceedingly high degree of service to our existing clients and limit the number of new clients we see each week. We just need enough advance notice to open the slot to a waiting family. But we also understand that emergencies happen.

What to Do Prior to Your Personal Family Estate Plan Consultation

Within 3 days after scheduling your appointment, you will receive a Priority Mailer with your Estate Planning Worksheet ( also downloadable here) and other important information that you will want to review prior to your Personal Family Estate Plan Consultation. We need your Estate Planning Worksheet returned to our office prior to your Consultation either by mail, fax or electronic mail. Feel free to contact the office at any time if you need assistance completing your worksheet or have any questions at all.

If you have existing estate planning documents, please make sure that we have your existing documents in our office before your meeting so that we can review them prior to meeting with you.

What to Expect the Day of Your Personal Family Estate Plan Consultation

On the day of your meeting, please expect to spend up to 2 hours with Richard. The initial meeting with your lawyer has two purposes:

  1. To identify whether there is a good fit between you and our firm and
  2. To educate you about the law and what would happen if you died or became incapacitated with your current (or no) plan in place.

By looking at what would happen under your current plan, you can identify what you would want to happen differently and then together with your lawyer’s guidance make the decisions that are necessary to give you the peace of mind knowing your family would be taken care of in the way you want if something happened to you.

Assuming that you and Richard determine that there is a good fit between our firm and your family AND that you identify specific ways you would want things to happen that are different that what would happen now, if something happened to you,…..you and Richard can design a plan for your family right away.

What Happens Next?

Once you and Richard have completed the design of your plan, we will review your assets for the purpose of ensuring that everything you own will be titled for maximum protection and then schedule a meeting for the review & signing of your planning documents.

We see that as only the beginning of our relationship. You may make changes to your planning documents at no charge for up to 90 days after you sign your documents. In addition, we send letters to all of the important people you’ve named as health care agents, financial agents, successor trustees and guardians letting them know just what to do if something happens to you – namely, call us, we’re here for your family!

At our final meeting during the planning stage of our relationship, we verify that all of your asset transfers are moving forward on track.

What Happens After I Sign My Estate Planning Documents and Take Them Home?

After the planning phase is complete, the maintenance phase of your plan will begin. At no additional charge, we review your plan with you at least every three years and keep you informed at least monthly about changes in the law and about other issues that affect your family (via our popular ezine Family Wealth Secrets).

Inner Circle Membership Program

Your estate plan documents are designed to work perfectly now but years down the road it won’t because laws change, family relationships change, and finances change. At least several times every year, we tweak the trust and other documents to make them more effective. For members of our Inner Circle Membership Program, we update their documents each year. Members are not charged for other amendments they wish to make nor for an annual review of their plan with unlimited telephone consultation. The annual membership fee for a married couple is $449 and single person is $349. Your first year of membership is free and you will be offered an invitation to continue.

Another benefit of membership in our Inner Circle Membership Program are…..

Legacy Conversations

Finally, your plan can include passing not only your financial assets, but your wisdom, values, and life experiences through a series of legacy conversations that are audio recorded on cd and stored in a beautiful leather case as part of your legacy to future generations.
